It took us a mere two weeks to reach the “necessary” stage—to confirm our worst fears. Donald Trump has proved he is unfit to be president. That brings to the fore my longstanding argument that it is time for the peacefully Pacific states to peacefully secede and form a new peaceful nation, Pacifica, allowing other former states to peacefully go where they will...or stay attached, if they choose.
Two weeks and The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists cites global warming and the accession of Donald Trump to the American presidency for moving the Doomsday Clock forward 30 seconds; that puts us at a mere two and a half minutes to midnight. They mean the final midnight.
Two weeks! Time enough to insult and alienate good neighbor Mexico, infuriate loyal ally Australia; ban Muslims from traveling to and from the United States; confound our long-time friends around the world with mindless declamations; welcome former KBG agent Putin into our family as dear old “Uncle Vlad,” and give him a seat by the hearth; reverse any number of Presidential Orders meant to protect the environment, minority peoples, and ordinary folks from our ambitious, heretofore shackled “entrepreneurs.”
What can we do? Start by reading my book in progress, A Left Coast Manifesto: Why the Pacific States Should Secede and Form a More Perfect Union of Their Own. The first half of it has just been posted to my website—CHAPTER 1: BREAK-UP, in which I discuss the worldwide phenomenon of nations breaking apart in our times, and now the just-completed CHAPTER 2: PACIFICA, in which I suggest the time is ripe for the Pacific states to separate themselves from the Union to form a great nation of our own.
You may have read that one third of Californians already favor secession, and that the #Calexit movement is growing by leaps and bounds. I agree with them but think we should go further and invite the other Pacific states to join us. In my book I discuss why we should secede and why we are likely to succeed in ways never dreamed. All done peacefully, of course.
